Annual Conference of the Interdisciplinary Centrum for Digitality and Digital Methods on Campus Mitte

The Interdisciplinary Centrum for Digitaliy and Digital Methods on Campus Mitte invites all interested colleagues to their annual conference with the focal topic Digital is Differnt!?:

Digital is different!? Mixed Mode

  • Highlighting Talks: Brief presentations on Digital Epistemology and Digitality by Antonia von Schöning (University Basel), Frédérique Rey (HU Berlin) and Roland Meyer (HU Berlin).
  • Roundtable Digitality researches differently!?: An interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary discussion of what (actually) changes in our research due to digital methods, infrastructures, and new/altered epistemic spaces. Is digital different!?
  • Developing Collaborative Research Contributions: We would like to foster interdisciplinary collabortion and research! In a Catch Your Call-format, we present highly relevant interdisciplinary calls for workshops, conferences, colloquia, and lecture series—and match participants interested in pursuing specific calls together.
  • Lecture: Language Machines: We are pleased to welcome Leif Weatherby (author of Language Machines) to speak on AI (Online-Talk), LLMs, language, and culture:
Nothing has changed in AI since December of 2022, when ChatGPT was released. Already by then, “vanilla” LLMs had been replaced by instruction-tuned models post-trained with reinforcement learning. These models are said to “reason.” This talk takes us into the latent space of so-called reasoning. Its aim is to show that symbolic reasoning of a kind illuminated by one theory of culture - begun by GWF Hegel and culminating in the work of Ernst Cassirer - is newly relevant in the age of the LLM.
