Research Information Assistant (FIA)
Working groups at the IC D2MCM research and develop specific topics in the areas of digitality and digital methods. Members of HU Berlin can participate. If you're interested, just drop by one of the upcoming working group meetings!
Objective: A key focus of the IZ D2MCM is strengthening networking on the Campus Mitte and making research on digitality and digital methods discoverable and visible. Mapping this research landscape is therefore a permanently relevant and continuously expanding task. Starting with the competencies, research fields, and researchers at the IZ D2MCM, the central question is: Who researches which topics and questions? The relevant information is located in different places, prepared in diverse ways, and varies in currency. Moreover, vocabularies and forms of representation differ depending on disciplinary culture and focus. Searches based on individual keywords can thus easily miss their target, and relevant projects, disciplinary expertise, and researchers become difficult to find.
Work priorities:
- Workshops on objectives, user stories, and scenarios in collaboration with the Digital Humanities Competence Workshop
- Testing of AI systems with Retrieval-Augmented Generation in cooperation with the Computer and Media Service
- Cooperation with the Research Service Centre
- Use of results from the Centre’s member survey
FIA: The queryable information space contains datasets specific to the scenario, which are accessed via a chatbot. For developing such a mapping, we use data from our member survey at the Centre, which asks about research fields and affiliation. For example, researchers on Campus Mitte can be found in a chatbot through their research fields—searched with a semantically broad query such as “digital theories” (cf. illustration).
Next steps: We will present the first demonstrator at the Centre’s general assembly.
