Safeguarding Research & Culture (SRC)

“As researchers, we often say, ‘we need the data.’ Today, the data needs us.”
— Kathy Reid

There is historical precedent for the destruction of knowledge and cultural heritage not conforming to particular agendas. We are currently in the midst of another such attempt.

Today, we see the veneer of business as usual juxtaposed with frantic upheaval in institutions we trust. In response, when fundamental rules of trust have been broken, individual people have had to take things into their own hands. Many different approaches have sprung up, with varying levels of coordination, all under one goal: Together, we are ensuring that our cultural, intellectual, and scientific heritage is safeguarded. Because people (and our diversity) matter.

In the midst of a never-ending assault on institutions dedicated to knowledge and the pursuit of truth, there are examples of defiance: As a community, we are not powerless.
