Teaching, AI, and Me

Discussion Forum of the AI Literacy Working Group

We cordially invite you to our second open discussion forum, which offers educators, instructors, and interested colleagues—regardless of their level of experience, from beginners to experts—a space for exchange, reflection, and networking. Together, we would like to explore how AI is changing our teaching and educational practices, what skills we need, and how we can ensure its meaningful and responsible use. We look forward to an inspiring exchange and a variety of perspectives! We also invite all participants to submit questions and practical examples during registration as input for the discussion round. Furthermore, the thematic focus of the roundtable will be guided by the practical experiences of the discussion participants.

AI Guidelines at HU Berlin

How are generative AI tools changing teaching, learning, and academic work here at HU Berlin? The discussion forum “Teaching, AI, and Me” has already addressed this question in its first session. Faculty, students, and staff from various disciplines and departments discussed new teaching and learning formats, exams, assessment, AI literacy, and the responsibilities of faculty and universities.

Panelists from teaching, research, and university administration will provide brief insights over the course of 60 minutes and share different perspectives. Afterward, the audience is invited to ask questions and share their own experiences.
Key questions for the discussion:

  • What is the purpose of guidelines on the use of AI across the entire university, and what is their greatest potential impact?
  • How useful are stricter or more open guidelines?
  • Do you view guidelines on the use of AI as a call for faculty and researchers to integrate generative AI tools into their work?
  • How can it be implemented across faculties and institutes?
  • What are the challenges of reconciling such a university-wide guideline with the examination regulations of your respective institutes?
  • To what extent does a guideline on AI actually require or encourage coordination among institutes regarding exams and assessment criteria?
